…since the Seahawks had a notable name on the offensive line.

On Monday night, ahead of the Tuesday trade deadline, the Seahawks acquired Pro Bowl LT Duane Brown from the Houston Texans for CB Jeremy Lane, a 2018 5th round pick, and a 2019 2nd round pick.

When the Seahawks finally make a move to fix their offensive line

For those who are unfamiliar with the LT out of Virginia Tech, Duane Brown is a 3-time Pro Bowler, and has spent all 9 1/2 of his seasons with the Houston Texans. He was in a holdout up until Sunday’s game with the Seahawks, so the Texans probably assumed he would leave after his contract ran out next season anyway. But, he was clearly effective in that one game as Watson was able to throw for 400+ yards and 4 TDs against Seattle’s elite defense.

I absolutely LOVE this trade. I have been complaining about the offensive line in Seattle for years now. But last night, not only did they go out and get one of the best, they got a veteran who can help them for years to come in more ways than one.

Not only will he slide into the left tackle spot in favor of Rees Odhiambo, but he has the ability to mentor the younger linemen, who are loaded with potential but still need to develop as players. Rookie Ethan Pocic has been effective at left guard this season and seems to have finally won the starting gig, but he has a lot of work to do. As does German Ifedi, the team’s 2016 first round pick, who seemingly has a holding penalty on every single drive this season. And George Fant, who will return to play next year after tearing his ACL, will hopefully take advantage of this opportunity and pick Brown’s brain over the coming months. While Justin Britt is a great leader and one of the better locker room presences on the roster, he has not had the personal success Brown has had, so having an icon added to the core group of offensive linemen is monumental.

With the offense finally coming alive these past few weeks and Russell Wilson playing like an MVP, the Seahawks have made a wildly important move to remain as one of the top contenders in the NFC. Their #1 weakness has now become a focal point of excitement for the second half of the season. John Schneider continues to be the man, and maybe this means our running backs will have more than three combined yards next week.

Go Hawks, baby
